About Olatunde Spence
I am a trauma informed Art Psychotherapist and EMDR therapist . I work in schools and in private practice. I have experience of working with autistic people, children and adults. I also have experience of working with Black and Asian groups and individuals to provide culturally sensitive therapy.
- I specialise in working with the impact of traumatic events. Trauma can be a one off experience like a car accident or can be related to childhood experiences of abuse, loss, bullying, divorce or illness.
Everyone of us will experience difficulties in life - for some these events can have a long lasting impact. My aim is to support people to overcome traumatic events, reduce symptoms and find more balance in life. Some common responses to trauma include
- Shock, denial, or disbelief.
- Confusion, difficulty concentrating.
- Anger, irritability, mood swings.
- Anxiety and fear.
- Guilt, shame, self-blame.
- Withdrawing from others.
- Feeling sad or hopeless.
- Feeling disconnected or numb
Trauma informed ways of working can help you to reduce symptoms and feel more in control of your responses and reactions to life's difficulties.

More recently the World Health Organisation (WHO) has also endorsed it for the treatment of PTSD in both adults and children, on the back of huge amounts of scientific evidence proving its efficacy. Alongside PTSD there are many published peer reviewed studies showing its effectiveness with a very large range of mental health conditions including phobias, different anxiety disorders, grief, low self-esteem, complex trauma, chronic pain amongst others
